Submissions

The 22nd Annual EGSS Conference will be held in an in-person format. We welcome submissions from students and researchers across departments at McGill University, as well as those from other universities and research programs. We welcome abstracts spanning a wide range of topics in education (i.e., pedagogy and curriculum, policy, philosophy, educational psychology, physical education, human health, and beyond), and presentations can reflect any stage of the research process. Ideally, submissions will relate to our conference theme: Education for Peace and Social Justice: Theory, Research and Praxis.

Types of Presentations:

15 Minute Oral Presentation

A 15-minute presentation, followed by 5 minutes for questions. This is a great option for presenting research that is completed or emergent. It could include a presentation of a literature review, a research proposal, a methodological presentation, data/findings, or even a course-related project.

Poster Presentation

There will be a 60-90 minute session where poster presentations are spotlighted. Posters can feature research proposals or completed projects. A poster presentation is a fantastic and low-stakes way to network and receive feedback from other conference presenters and attendees.

Panel Presentation

A Panel is a set of presentations by 3-4 researchers whose ideas are tied together by a common theme. One person can submit an abstract on behalf of the group.

Fast 5 Presentation

The Fast 5 Presentation allows you hone your skills to present a quick, coherent, and compelling snapshot of your research. The Fast 5 is also a competition - so presenting in this format means you'll be automatically considered for an EGSS Conference Award.

Submission Guidelines:

Eligible content for presentations of any type include: literature review, research proposal, research in progress (i.e., early findings), completed research, course project, etc.

To submit an abstract for any presentation format, you will need to provide the following:

Your name, institutional affiliation,department, program, and year of study
If applicable, the name(s) of your co-presenter(s), fellow panelists
The title of your presentation
3-5 Keywords related to your presentation
An abstract (maximum 250 words)

What to Include in your Abstract

For Oral presentations, Fast 5, Poster, or Panel, you may include the following in your abstract:

Purpose, Research Question(s)
Perspective(s) or theoretical framework or research paradigm
Educational importance of the study
Methodology/Modes of inquiry
Data Analysis (if applicable)
Results/conclusions (if applicable)
Connection to conference theme (Education for Peace and Social Justice: Theory, Research and Praxis)

Abstracts will be reviewed by the conference review panel based on the following criteria:

1) Is the purpose of the presentation clear?

2) Does there appear to be some connection to the conference theme? (Education for Peace and Social Justice: Theory, Research and Praxis)

3) Is the abstract coherent and organized?
